A town that was founded after the Civil War in the middle of Georgia by Union (“Yankee”) veterans and developed with the aid of Confederate (“Rebel”) veterans has to have some special attitudes and attributes to survive, grow, and prosper, don’t you think?
During our “recon” of Fitzgerald checking out and mapping bicycle routes we enjoyed a Special Friendliness that warmed our hearts. Folks stopped to listen to us explaining our mission, smiled, asked questions and pitched in to help us with a will and a way.
We are very grateful to the residents of Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County for the hospitality and warm welcome they gave us. We hope you will visit Fitzgerald for a Friendly Bicycle Getaway Weekend and take your own friendly photos!
